Abstract This article re-reads Lyric VII of the poem Advent , dialogue Mary and Joseph. The division speeches in this lyric has been debated, largely on grounds plausibility emotions that are apparently expressed by characters, but there fact clear pragmatic for seeing only three poem. emotional expression these should not be seen terms character psychology, rather establishment negotiation relational stances. In her first speech, expresses bitter grief draws attention to weeping, which is because insults gossip she suffering; accent shame reputation a distinctive emphasis poet’s treatment material.
